El Dr. Natalio Debs Elías es un especialista en cirugía plástica y reconstructiva en Bayamón. Se graduó con honores de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Puerto Rico en 1981. Con más de 40 años de experiencia en cirugía plástica, reconstructiva y cirugía de mano, el Dr. Debs ha realizado un sinnúmero de investigaciones y publicaciones, por las cuales ha obtenido grandes reconocimientos en el campo de la salud. Médico de vocación, el cirujano realiza servicios comunitarios donde atiende a niños con deformidades congénitas y defectos postraumáticos adquiridos en cirugías y cuidados postoperatorios.

Research
– Community based Participatory Research Assessment Study for Children with Special Needs: Cleft Lip and Palate (CL/P)
Overall goal: The specific aim of this project is to assess the existing clinical infrastructure, the interdisciplinary integration, teaching, and collaborative research with community participation to identify the barriers and limitations that currently exist in the health care delivery system to the effective treatment and management of patients with Cleft Lip and/or Palate (CL/P) in Puerto Rico. This study is part of a more ambitious project whose long-term goal is to build the basis to create a permanent Center of Excellence for Children with “Special Needs”.

– “Risk factors in 0-21 year olds presenting Cleft Lip and/or Palate (CL/P) at the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine (2007-2014)”: Pilot Study
Overall goal: To explore the distribution of socio-demographic behavioral and other risk factors among CL/P patients seeking treatment at the Center for Craniofacial Disorders (CCD) at the University of Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine (UPRSDM).

– Oral Clefts Malformations in Puerto Rican Children: Genetic Risk Factors and Maternal Exposures
The purpose of this study is to examine the association between Methylenetetrahydofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T polymorphism and oral clefts risk in Puerto Ricans.

– Voluntary Plastic Surgical Expedition Cleft lip and palate reconstructions and burn scars revisions with Dr. E. Clyde Smoot, III at Florencia and Pitalito, Colombia, February 5-17, 1989.
– Voluntary pro bono work since 1991-present, initially as part of the Proyecto MIRA “Mil Imagenes Rehacer con Amor” with Dr. Robert L. Walton and Dr. Carlos Girod at Hospital Dr. Federico Trilla Hospital, Universidad de Puerto Rico at Carolina and continuation of this effort as part of the San Jorge Children Foundation taking care of children with congenital deformities and acquired post traumatic defects in their surgeries and postoperative care.
– Voluntary work since 1999-present, actively sponsoring and promoting the development of young running athletes with Comité Fondismo de Puerto Rico. (Cross Country National Team).
– Voluntary work from 2003-Present, organizing the medical logistics, Anti-doping,
participation of young runners, and other aspects of the Teodoro Moscoso World’s Best 10K and a member of the Board of Directors.
– Voluntary pro bono work with the Shriners of Boston & Philadelphia in Puerto Rico taking care of children with musculoskeletal disorders and burns from 2007-Present.
